Music is the beating heart of RNSF. We are lucky enough to have a specialist Music teacher, trained to teach music and singing.
We introduce rhythm and percussion instruments in Reception and as children move up the school they develop their skills, learning to play tuned percussion, usually the ukulele. There are opportunities from Year 1 to learn drums and piano in small groups or individually. Year 4 children have instrument lessons from the Somerset Music service and prepare to perform as a group alongside other Frome schools, playing either stringed instruments, samba drums or brass.
Our schools invest budget into staging a professional theatre production once every two or three years. This takes place in a local theatre with professional sound and light technicians. The whole school takes part, showcasing dance, music, drama and singing skills. Throughout their time with us, we encourage all children to gain confidence singing solos and for every child to view themselves as enjoying music.
We have our own collection of ukuleles and djembe drums along with percussion instruments. We work with jackdaws in Frome alongside professional musicians and in 2022 took part in the Year of Klezmer concert at Frome Cheese and Grain. In 2019 we staged our own carnival throughout the streets of Rode village after ten weeks of tuition from professional samba musicians.
