06 Feb Poetry and Writing Week
This week, our school was buzzing with creativity as we celebrated Poetry and Writing Week! The children explored a variety of writing styles, performed their own poetry, and embraced the magic of words.
We kicked off on Monday with a special visit from Bristol-based poet Danny Carlo, who inspired every class to write and perform different styles of poetry. He was amazed by the children’s talent and creativity. A huge thank you to FRANS for funding this fantastic experience! Please see below for the wonderful poems created by Gruffalo and Elmer Class.
On Tuesday, Miss Anderson led the way with poetry inspired by Far, Far Away… Paddington Class worked hard on rhyming couplets, and their poems will be entered into a special competition!
Wednesday saw the children take on the challenge of writing a 100-word story, set by Mrs Slade—a tricky task that encouraged them to be imaginative while keeping their writing concise.
On Thursday, Mrs Vowell introduced the children to different types of poetry from around the world. Paddington Class created acrostic poems, Wild Things experimented with kennings, and BFG and LFG explored the fun of limericks. Over at Norton, the children were busy rhyming words, creating shape poems, and writing about animals.
We ended the week with a wonderful celebration, where children across both schools had the chance to share their poetry and showcase their fantastic work.
It has been a week full of imagination, expression, and creativity, and we are so proud of all the children’s efforts! Well done, everyone!

The crocodile snaps, and she eats her fish, has a big drink, then washes the dish.
She eats the dish, cleans it with her mouth, then eats an owl. The owl said ‘Ow!’
Yummy yummy, in my tummy
Rumble, rumble, her tummy tumbles

The leopard jumped up on the roof and did a silly dance. Tiger tried to eat him, but the leopard ran too fast.
The leopard jumped back down again, to the Savannah’s path. The panther tried to eat him, its shadow creeping through the dark.
The panther chased him, panting, til they reached some trees, at last. The panther climbed the tree to eat him, but the leopard climbed too fast.
