What a fantastic time we had on Wednesday at Rode and Norton schools when children from all year groups channelled their inner ‘Tony Hawks’ and took on the challenge of skateboarding!
The children started our sessions by going over the basics; wearing the correct gear and standing on the board! After this, they learned how to move with the board and how to face their body in the directions of travel. For a first time skater this is no easy task and the children worked incredibly well to master this new skill. The support and encouragement they gave to each other was awesome. Once the basics movements had been covered, the children moved onto tricks. They tried flipping boards over (kick flips), moving their boards in a circle (board spins) and holding onto their board whilst it was in motion.
It was wonderful to see so many children having a go at something they may not have done before. The teamwork, resilience and perseverance shown by the children at Rode and Norton was inspirational. A great big THANK YOU must go to Mrs Davis for organising such a fabulous treat for the children and also to our amazingly cool skateboarding instructor Sam Young from Team Rubicon.
