18 Dec Wild Things Class visit to Diorama Art Exhibition
Wild Things class spent a fabulously inspiring morning at the Black Swan Long Gallery to see the amazing life work of Frome artist Corinna Sargood. There were so many extraordinary things to see, every child had a favourite! There were embroideries of Fairy Tales and stories from the old Testament, with a myriad of brightly coloured threads used. These were the favourite of many children as they were allowed to don special white gloves to handle them. There were fabulous painted wooden dioramas inspired by Corinna’s travels in Mexico and South America, these were the favourite of many children as they had magical doors to open and reveal further glimpses into magical pictures. Many children loved the wooden puppet theatres with handles and levers to change the settings, move characters and tell stories.
The children were also blown away by the fact that these beautiful pieces of artwork had never before been publicly displayed! It was a real treat to be allowed a glimpse into such a magical way of viewing the world and will hopefully really inspire our future artwork!
The following are a few quotes from the children about the exhibition:
Reuben – I really loved the pictures that you were allowed to touch with a glove. I also really loved the ones that moved. My favourite was the building on fire because from the fire it looked really cool and I LOVED it! It felt soft and on the edges it felt sort of rough. I really want to go back again. I want Santa to put the picture of the building on fire in my stocking!
Molly – I liked it because she put a lot of care and decoration into all of the work. They were all lovely.
Jude – I liked the lights on the picture with the square because they looked really cool and real. It looked like the sky.
Laura – I liked this morning because we saw loads of art and we saw how good people can get working with wood and art.
Gryff – I really liked the rain-forest one because it was really beautiful and it looked like you were actually going on a boat and seeing those sights! I also
really like that the pictures moved. The carving on the frames was made by a chisel!
Louis W – I was really excited when I got there, I couldn’t wait. They were all awesome and amazing. I really liked the pictures with the animals in because I love animals. I really want to go back there again!
