11 Mar World Book Day
This year we decided to turn the tables and take the dressing-up pressure off the parents and instead invite some of the teachers to dress up. At Rode the children moved around the classes to visit three different book themed workshops. Mrs Opie’s book was ‘Pippi Long stocking’, complete with brilliant costume. Ms Anderson looked suitably scary as a spider caught in her web. Her workshops were based on the book ‘The Spider and the Fly’ and involved some revolting recipe writing. Mrs Vowell shared an engineering book with a practical challenge. Throughout the day all five classes were visited by some mystery storytellers. A green princess shared the story of The Princess and the Pea. A very hairy wolf was cooking up a stew with the book “Beware of Boys’ and a strange old woman was giving out sweets from the walls of her house in ‘Hansel and Gretel’.
Thank you for the positive feedback we had from parents whose children were excitedly telling them about their day.
Let’s not let the enthusiasm for reading end there! the children have all brought home their World Book day £1 voucher to use in bookshops. At this mid-point in the year it is worth reminding everybody to keep regularly hearing your child read and record their progress in their reading record book.
