24 Apr Science Learning Walk
On Thursday we carried out a Governors’ Learning Walk across the school, tracking children’s learning journey as they move through the school. Our focus was on Science and we were delighted to see so much investigation taking place. Children were able to talk to us about their learning using technical language. Some of the youngest children in Gruffalo Class patiently explained to us about the life-cycle of a seed and a butterfly whilst drawing detailed diagrams. Outside, children were using a viewfinder to identify plants. Elmer Class were naming flowers and labelling their parts. Both classes were doing careful looking whilst drawings plants. We tracked down Paddington class who were all outside researching animal micro-habitats. They were digging in the soil and looking under logs, recording what they found on a chart. In the school pond they discovered newts and dragonflies. Meanwhile, Wildthings were up to their elbows in compost. They had set up a number of fair tests, planting seeds in different conditions. Predictions were made about which seed would flourish and why.
